Freepik Company appoints Carlos Marín as Project Strategy Officer

Freepik Company, a technology company specialized in the production and distribution of free graphic resources, has strengthened its management team by appointing Carlos Marín as its Project Strategy Officer. It’s a newly created position that will focus on the planning and implementation of a strategic expansion plan for Freepik Company, aligning the strategy with the investment fund EQT, which acquired a majority stake of the company in May 2020.

Freepik Company’s new Project Strategy Officer will work cross-departmentally, working closely with the management team, to plan and implement a strategic expansion project for the company. His objectives include expanding the company’s international penetration, working on the development and optimization of its products (Freepik, Flaticon and Slidesgo), as well as serving as a point of contact with EQT.

During his career, Carlos contributed greatly to the exponential growth of the Spanish company Glovo, where first as Head of Operations and more recently as Head of Strategy for Spain and Portugal he was responsible, among many other milestones, for the territorial expansion of the company, going from a presence in 30 cities to being present in more than 300 on the Iberian Peninsula. He has also held positions within strategy and operations at Deliveroo and previously worked for Telefónica within the McKinsey & Company Corporate Strategy team. He thus has extensive international experience in operations and strategy, acquired during his professional career in countries such as the UK, Brazil and Portugal.

For Carlos, joining Freepik Company is “It’s a really exciting project. From the moment it was presented to me and I was able to meet the great team that makes it possible, I understood a large part of the success of Freepik Company and the interest it had aroused in EQT. This new position allows me to face the challenge of collaborating in the design of the strategy of a company in full expansion like Freepik Company, with a disruptive business model that makes it a leader in its sector. For me it is a great opportunity to be able to participate in the success of the Malaga startup.”

For his part, Alejandro Sánchez, co-founder of Freepik Company and current CEO, adds “Carlos brings us extensive knowledge in the strategic development of startups, which will strengthen our international expansion and the development of our product roadmap. We are delighted to welcome a talent like his”.
